Waltham, MA—August 26, 1997—Raptor Systems, Inc, (Nasdaq: RAPT) the technology leader in integrated network security products, today announced Raptor Axcess—its industry-leading, information access control application—is available for UNIX, and will be shipping for Windows NT in October. Raptor Axcess is an integrated set of technologies using an open, extendible, scalable architecture. Axcess provides secure, centralized and selective access to distributed, web-based information on Intranets.
Raptor Axcess offers customers several unique time- and money-saving capabilities. IS managers now can use existing systems to implement vendor-neutral, Intranet access control. Web-based single sign on, made possible by centralized authentication and authorization control, means maximum performance from intranet information systems. Raptor Axcess also provides opportunity for VAR or OEM partners to gain controlled access to Web-based information. With Raptor Axcess organizations get the flexibility to meet growing and changing needs.
“Axcess enables Raptor Systems to provide a unique and comprehensive security solution to the dynamic corporate environment,” said Shaun McConnon, President and CEO of Raptor Systems. “We now offer our customers a first in network security: the ability to implement information access control ranging from a complete blockade to selective access to distributed web based information.”
Raptor Axcess was developed using open standards and protocols such as http and SSL. Axcess is completely vendor-neutral, as well as database independent. Consequently, customers can establish secure information access regardless of which firewalls, web servers, platforms, or browsers they utilize. The open architecture also offers interoperability in a multi-platform (UNIX and Windows NT) environment so that Axcess users can continue to derive maximum benefits from current technology investments.
With centralized permission management, Axcess enables the IS manager to manage and maintain Axcess enables the IS manager to manage and maintain user account information in a single location. Through an Application Program Interface (API), Axcess is database independent, letting customers easily connect to existing databases and technology. This also eliminates the need to start each new Web initiative with a new database, or copy the contents of a corporate database to a Web database.
Raptor acquired Axcess and related technology from Open Market, Inc. the leading Internet commerce software provider, in May, 1997. “If you are trying to control access to UNIX and NT web servers, Axcess is a wonderful fit,” said Tom Mulvehill, Product Manager. “Some vendors offer proprietary capabilities, but Axcess alone is vendor-neutral.” Mulvehill has been associated with the Axcess product since the earliest stages of its development at Open Market.
Raptor Axcess features makes it a cost-effective, productivity-enhancing security tool that can be used across the enterprise.
Customers have the ability to specify their own Certifying Authority (CA) and choose their level of authentication, from basic authentication to custom challenges to hardware token devices, to X.509 V3 Client Certificates. From a user perspective, all the ticketing technology is seamless. Unique ‘ticketing’ technology permits single sign-on—one time identification and authorization— a valuable performance enhancement in a large organization.
Raptor Axcess addresses the limitations of current Web servers by providing comprehensive tracking, tamper-proof access control, secure authentication, and flexible authorization. With intelligent web reporting (with UNIX), customers can analyze site visits.
Axcess offers customers a cost-effective information access control solution. There are no user fees associated with applications built onto the technology. Unlike competing technologies, the open architecture of Axcess means no additional code for the client to buy, install, and administer. Axcess allows customers to leverage investments in existing via an application programming interface.
The foundation of Axcess technology is its ‘ticket technology’. Customers can connect any information repository to a ticketing agent. The repository could be a flat file, a commercial database, or application code connecting to Top Secret or RACF.
The ‘ticket’ is a cryptographic object that uses private/public key cryptography to generate shared secrets, or symmetrical keys. The symmetrical keys are shared between the Axcess server and each of the distributed web servers to which Axcess controls access. This capability allows for secure, Web-based single sign-on to distributed Web servers.
Raptor Axcess includes Axcess server technology with an Application Programming Interface (API) which allows users to connect to existing databases and back office applications; the WebReporter component (for Unix); and the SecureLink component which is configured on the distributed web server. The SecureLink technology on each of the distributed web servers validates the ‘tickets’ granted by the centralized Axcess server. SecureLink also makes it possible to support a wide variety of both UNIX and NT web servers.
Raptor Axcess is available worldwide and will be sold directly by Raptor Systems, select resellers, and global distribution partners. Base license which costs $15,000, includes the ticketing agent server, control for the first web server, and the developer tools. Control for each additional web server is $4,000 per server. Raptor Axcess V 2.0 for UNIX is available now; Raptor Axcess V 2.0 for Windows NT is available in October, 1997.
